“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.”
– B.B King
Curriculum Overview
BPS adheres to the British and Early Years Curriculum. We combine the best age appropriate learning approaches from a combination of Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Cornerstone inspired learning, with more traditional structured learning to ensure a broad and balanced educational experience. Our curriculum is designed to recognise children’s prior learning, engage them in first-hand experiences, develop interpersonal skills, resilience and creative thinking. We also include Physical Education (PE), Field Trips and Music.
KS1
Pre School 18 months to 3 years
Pre school is often the first time many of the children leave mummy, daddy or carer, our priority is to help settle the children and create a space where they feel safe and happy. We offer three pre school classes allowing similar age children to learn together!
With many years experience and a great support team we will help you with the transition between home and school. From potty training to feeding, we work with you to help your child grow into confident schoolers who are ready to learn.
We follow the British Early Years Foundation (EYFS) Curriculum which is full of activity based and sensory learning. We combine this with the best play based learning approach to allow children to learn through exploration and discovery. This type of approach helps children learn real life skills, it encourages problem solving and critical thinking.
“Nine-tenths of education is encouragement.”– Anatole France
Nursery
Age 3-4
The children will be working on developing independence and mastering daily routines. Helping children to do everyday tasks independently will help to boost their self confidence. These tasks are encouraged to be done independently at home too. Children will be introduced to literacy and numeracy through play and structured activities.
The children will be listening to lots of different stories, poems, rhymes and songs. All of which will help them to verbally form correct sentences and use good diction. In addition to this we offer in house music and PE programmes to help develop strong motor skills, preparing them for numeracy, literacy and a seamless transition to Reception Class.
“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.”– Socrates
Reception
Ages 4-5
Our Reception Class lessons are educational, interactive and fun! The children will progress through our pre- reading program in Term 1 to consolidate the learning from Nursery Class. Terms 2 and 3 lessons are very practical with lots of challenges to help them transition to Year One.
Children learn best when they are engaged, happy and safe. We encourage the children to develop their skills through both activity based and structured learning, which will help them to develop literacy and numeracy skills. We encourage children to participate in Arabic, PE and Music lessons and where possible, we take the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom, from using our BPS Teaching Garden to taking field trips.
“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”
– Albert Einstein
Year One
Age 5-6
Our crafted curriculum provides opportunities for the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes that are relevant, meaningful and useful, involving active participation, critical thinking, problem solving and the application of knowledge to the real world. Assessment is ongoing and within the framework of a structured curriculum.
The focus of mathematics teaching in Key Stage One is to ensure that children develop confidence and mental fluency with whole numbers, counting and place value. We work with numerals and word problems to help develop problem solving and critical thinking skills.
